OB53 Weapon Balance Changes: What's Buffed & Nerfed

Every OB update reshuffles the weapon meta, and OB53 is no exception. Garena's been relatively quiet about the full patch notes ahead of the Advance Server, but players who got access during the March 20–April 2 testing window have been documenting changes in detail.

Here's a complete breakdown of what got touched, why it matters, and how it should change how you play.

Marksman Rifles

The marksman rifle class got the most significant changes this patch, and they're mixed.

AC80 — Nerfed

The AC80 was already a situational weapon, but OB53 makes it more niche. Damage has been reduced by 6%, and more importantly, the extra damage to shield points has been completely removed (down from 20% to 0%).

That shield damage was the AC80's entire identity in the meta — it was the go-to for chipping through characters with defensive abilities. Without it, there's very little reason to choose AC80 over other options in the same slot. Unless further adjustments come before live release, expect this one to fall completely out of use.

SKS — Reworked

The SKS got a full stat overhaul that makes it a different weapon entirely:

  • Rate of Fire +6%
  • Range +15%
  • Reload Speed +10%
  • Magazine Capacity reduced from 16 to 10

The tradeoff is interesting. You fire faster, reach farther, and reload quicker, but you have significantly fewer bullets per mag. This pushes the SKS toward a precision, single-shot playstyle rather than the spray-and-pray approach some players were using. If you're the type to make every shot count, SKS just became more viable. If you like having ammo buffer, this hurts.

Sniper Rifles

Snipers across the board received armor penetration buffs, which is a significant meta shift.

M24-III

  • Rate of Fire +4%
  • Armor Penetration +20%

AWM, AWM-Y, M82B, VSK94, Kar98k

  • Armor Penetration +20%
  • Limb Damage +50%

The limb damage buff on this group is the headline change. Snipers that previously hit arms or legs for minimal damage now deal substantially more — a leg shot that was a nuisance before might be fight-ending now. This makes snipers punishing even on imperfect aim, which lowers the skill floor and raises the lethality of sniper engagements across the board.

The armor penetration increase compounds this — higher-tier vests won't protect as much as they used to. If you're an SMG or shotgun player who relies on a vest to tank sniper hits while closing distance, that calculation just changed.

Shotguns

MAG-7 — Buffed

The MAG-7 has been underused for a while, and OB53 gives it a meaningful nudge:

  • Weapon Switch Speed +15%
  • Rate of Fire +5%
  • Movement Speed +5% while equipped

The movement speed bonus is the interesting one. MAG-7 was already decent at close range; the switch speed and movement buffs make it a better secondary weapon and a stronger choice for aggressive play where you're constantly moving between cover. It's not going to become a top-tier pick overnight, but it's worth experimenting with.

SMGs

UMP — Slight Buff

  • Range +5%
  • Added Muzzle attachment slot

The UMP was one of the better SMGs already. The range increase makes it viable from a slightly longer distance, and the muzzle slot opens up options for suppressor builds in specific modes. Nothing that changes the meta dramatically, but a welcome upgrade for UMP users.

Weapon Attachment Changes

OB53 also adds new attachment slots to several weapons, which has more impact than it might seem — slots mean more customization options and more synergy with attachment-specific abilities.

  • M590: Added Foregrip and Stock slots
  • PLASMA: Added Foregrip and Stock slots
  • Kord: Added Muzzle slot

The M590 and PLASMA getting foregrips is significant for recoil control, making both more viable in sustained fights.

What This Means for the Meta

The biggest takeaway from OB53's weapon changes is that snipers just got scarier. The across-the-board armor penetration and limb damage buffs reward good positioning and punish plays that involve getting caught in the open.

The AC80 nerf pushes players to find new counters to shield-based characters. The SKS rework rewards precision play. And the MAG-7/UMP buffs give aggressive close-range players slightly better tools.

If you've been sleeping on snipers, OB53 is a good time to learn one. And if you've been relying on your vest to survive getting clipped — start playing cleaner.
